How To Buy A Diamond

  1. Know and understand the 4C’s of Diamond Quality

No two diamonds are the same.  The quality and value of a diamond is so much more than just a certificate or a simple visual look see.  In order to know the true quality and value diamond you must understand the 4C’s and how they impact the diamonds beauty, quality and price.

2. Choose a jeweler you know and trust.

The jeweler you choose should be knowledgeable and open to questions you may have about quality when choosing and purchasing a diamond.  They should be able to demonstrate the differences between visually similar stones and encourage you to compare a number of loose stones that fall within your budget.

3. Insist on a Grading Report

A diamond grading report from an unbiased, scientific source is more than important information, it is proof of what you are buying.  There are many labs that grade and certify diamonds these days.  Some are reputable and some are not.  Your jeweler should know the differences and biases of these labs and help you choose a diamond with a proper lab certificate to ensure that you are getting what you are paying for.  Also, differences in diamonds can be so subtle, even a trained jeweler can have trouble recognizing them without verification.  Importantly, diamonds that are already mounted may hide diamond characteristics that greatly effect its value and price.
